After stepping down from CSKA, he briefly coached Real Madrid before joining San Antonio Spurs as an assistant.
On 18 June 2009, he became Real Madrid's head coach, departing in March 2011 amidst struggles. He then served as an assistant for San Antonio Spurs, later leading Italy’s senior men’s team from 1993 to 1997, including their 1997 EuroBasketball triumph.
